Hannah Campbell Joins the Collection
Mammoth warmly welcomes another Vancouver-based photographer to the collection: Hannah Campbell. Hannah is a photographer working both digitally and with medium format film, and the recipient of a Canon Photography Award.
When asked about her motivations as an artist, she's quick to identify her affinity for storytelling. A glance at her portfolio confirms her embodiment of this role. Although few of her photographs are peopled, the scenes and landscapes framed suggest a presence that could be our own, and share a melancholy nod towards fading memory and days gone by.
"Myself and twenty seven other artists sailed around an island known as Svalbard for two weeks. Each day we would sail into a different fjord and zodiac onto the land. We explored these places...each of us working with the landscape to tell different stories.
This series showcases these unique and largely unknown environments in a documentary style. This place will never be the same as how I saw it. For generations to come, learning about what the Arctic once was will be a far away idea of a place unknown. I felt that by documenting my experience there I would be able to share a story about a quickly changing place drastically affected by climate change."
